In fact, barking is the nature of dogs, but some dogs are just nagging more than others, and if your family also has a dog that can never be quiet, you may want to try the following methods
- Exercise more: plenty of exercise can deplete a dog’s energy. After a long day of playing or running, a dog would rather have a good night’s sleep than waste its energy barking again.
- Bone chewing: If there’s something to gag your dog, they won’t have time to bark, and the harder it is to chew something up, the more challenging it is, so next time you’re ready to go out, throw them their favorite chew toy first, so they can kill the boredom.
- Use your brain: If your dog has something to do, they won’t have time to bark, so before you leave the house, rub their favorite toys with your hands so that their scent stays on them. When they don’t see their owner, a lonely dog will spend more time searching for their owner’s scent on the toy and forget to bark.
- Make some noise: The more nervous dogs will bark at the slightest sound. If you can’t completely banish environmental noises, you may want to create some sounds as a distraction. For example, turn on a noisy vacuum cleaner when the mailman passes by to confuse the dog’s hearing.
- Respond to it: Sometimes a dog barks incessantly just to get a message across to its owner. If the owner responds in kind and shows appreciation, the dog will naturally shut up when it understands that the task is complete!
- Reward it: If the dog just won’t shut up, the owner should immediately reprimand it with a firm tone of voice: “Quiet!” When the dog stops barking, the director may wish to offer a small treat or praise as a sign of encouragement. The purpose of doing so is to let the dog know that obedience as well as keeping quiet can get the owner’s pleasure and reward.
- Ignore it: Some dogs, like humans, lose their audience and can’t muster the energy to continue their long-winded speeches. If they keep chattering, the owner may want to turn away, and most dogs will have the good sense to keep their mouths shut. In order to strengthen their learning effect, the professor suggested that the owner can bring a small bell, whenever the dog barks incessantly, the first shake the bell, to determine that they hear the sound of the bell and then leave the room. After a few lessons, the next time the dog barks, as long as you hear the bell, you know you should shut up. Similarly, when they stop barking, the owner can give them some praise or a reward.
- Douse their enthusiasm: Spraying your dog with a water pistol can also stop them from barking. When they are barking, the owner should first give them a verbal admonition, and if they still don’t listen to the warning, spray them with a water pistol to calm them down.
