Basics – Posture Training

/

In the competition, in addition to observing whether the appearance of the dog is beautiful or not, the good or bad standing posture is also the key to victory. Therefore, you should train your dog to have a good posture.

Standing Posture

Using the dog’s fear of falling psychology, in a small area and higher than the ground for the place, you can use a small table or a piece of high wooden board. First of all, the dog will be carried to the small table, so that its hind legs close to the edge of the small table part, release the hand, the dog because of the fear of falling, it will be soft limbs want to lie down, this time we have to hold it with one hand on the chest or chin, the other hand gently backward pull the dog’s tail, pay attention to the tail can not only pull the tail hairs, in order to avoid causing pain. The hand holding the front chest also pushes backward so that the dog cannot sit down.

When the dog realizes that its back feet will lose support and it will step out of the way, it will instinctively lean its body forward and upward, with the front limbs firmly planted and the toes tightened, presenting a standard posture with all limbs straight and the head held high. As long as this method is repeated many times, the dog will learn, and then even if standing on the flat ground, as long as we pull the tail backward, the dog will reflexively assume the standard beautiful posture.

Sit

This is a content of training together with other subject groups. The dog is required to sit quickly and correctly after hearing the command, and can hold it for a certain period of time.

When training, let the dog stand on the owner’s left side, issue the command “sit” at the same time, use the right hand to lift the collar, the left hand to press the corner of the dog’s waist. When the dog is forced to sit under this mechanical stimulus, it should be rewarded immediately, and after repeated training, the dog will be able to develop the action of sitting.

On this basis, combine the training with hand gestures. If you make the front to sit, then the right arm outward flat, small arm upward vertical, palm forward into the “L” shape; if you make the left side to sit, then the left hand patting the left side of the abdomen. If the dog has been able to do a good job “sit” action, should also be gradually trained to extend the time to sit, from 3 to 5 seconds, until extended to more than 5 minutes.

Lying down

The action of lying down should be carried out after the action of “sitting” has been learned.

There are two ways to train the dog:

One is that the owner is on the right side of the dog, facing the dog, holding food in his right hand, slowly moving downward from the top of the dog’s mouth, while issuing the command to lie down, and pulling the leash downward to stimulate the dog. At this time the dog in the food and mechanical stimulation, can make the action of lying down, when the dog lying down, timely reward with food. Later, with the formation of the conditioned reflex, gradually cancel the reward and stimulation.

Another method is to let the dog sit down, the owner should squat down, hold the two forelimbs of the dog with both hands, stretch forward, and press the dog’s shoulder blade with the left arm, the dog will make the action of lying down, and should be given food rewards at this time. Later, the dog should be allowed within a certain distance, combined with gestures (left arm down, palm forward, palm down, and up and down swing) for training, in order to improve its level of action, extend the command distance, and the ability to press the master’s command and gestures to adhere to the ability to lie down for more than 5 minutes.

Standing

When training, first make the dog sit down, then gently lift and pull the leash, issue the command and gesture of “stand” (right arm stretched out in the direction of the dog, palm upward), and reward the dog when it stands up. The owner should gradually leave the dog’s side so that the dog can prolong the standing time. On this basis, gradually develop the ability to stand for a certain period of time according to hand signals or commands.

Greeting

This is done on the basis of the “Standing” movement. When training, the owner stands on the opposite side of the dog and gives the command “stand”, when the dog stands firmly, give the command “thank you”, and at the same time one hand grabs the dog’s front limbs and swings them up and down. Repeat this a few times and then reward the dog with petting and food. Then pull away from the dog and give the command without using your hand. If the dog can’t do it, repeat several times until the dog can do it.

Simple hand signals can be added at the beginning of training, but it is important to prevent the dog from becoming conditioned to the sign. When the movement is solid, just give the command “thank you”, and the series of reflex activities of standing and bowing will be completed in one go without the need to give the command twice.
