Training your dog to lie down

/

Purpose Requirements

The purpose of this class is to enable the dog to develop the obedience of lying down quickly and correctly on command, and to maintain the durability of lying down for a prolonged period of time. The correct lying posture is to have the front limbs below the elbows on the ground stretched out flat in front of the body, as wide as the body, the hind limbs tightly pressed against the sides of the abdomen on the ground, the head naturally lifted, and the tail naturally stretched out flat at the back.

Training Steps and Methods

The lying class should be trained after the sitting class has formed the conditioned reflex, and interspersed with other classes. This program is divided into three stages of training. The first stage is to make the dog form a conditioned reflex to the command “lie down” and hand signals.

Another training method is to make the dog sit down on the left side, the trainer left leg back a step, take a single-legged kneeling posture, the left hand from the back of the dog to reach over and hold the dog’s left forelimb, the right hand to hold the dog’s right forelimb, in the issuance of the “lying, the command, at the same time, will be the dog’s forelimbs forward to lead, and with the left arm to lightly press the dog’s scapula, the dog because of mechanical stimulation to force the role of the dog, that is, it will be made to lie down! The dog will be forced by the mechanical stimulation to make the action of lying down. When the dog lies down correctly, it should be rewarded.

This method is not suitable for dogs with sensitive skin. In the training of lying with the progress, but also combined with the restoration of the training of sitting, that is, when the dog lying for a while, after the command and gesture to make the dog sit up, the dog, such as the reaction, can be repeated on the one hand, “sit” command and gesture, on the one hand, gently lifting the leash, to promote the dog to sit up. When the dog sits up, it should be rewarded. This kind of training should be done until the dog forms a conditioned reflex.

The second stage is to cultivate the obedience of lying down and delaying lying down on command.

When the dog can be one or two steps away from the trainer within the distance, according to the command to smoothly make the correct action of lying down and sitting up, it can be used to master the training rope, gradually extend the command distance to ten meters. In this process, it is necessary to constantly consolidate the dog’s movements, appropriately strengthen the means of coercion, never simply pursue the extension of the command distance.

Only on the basis of the dog obeying the command and performing the action smoothly, should we continue to extend the command distance and gradually reach thirty meters, or even farther. Command distance should also be a combination of near and far, not only far not close. Otherwise, it is not conducive to the consolidation and timely correction of the dog’s faults. In training, the command and gestures are generally used in combination, but sometimes can also be used separately. This can achieve the purpose of establishing the conditioned reflexes of the dog separately, which is conducive to the flexibility of the command.

The method of training the dog to lie down and stay delayed is the same as that of training the dog to sit and stay delayed. If the dog can leave the trainer twenty meters away from the hidden, with the correct lying posture to stay delayed for more than five minutes can be.

The third stage of the environmental conditions to complicate the exercise

When the dog’s prone class is relatively consolidated, it can gradually enter a more complex environment to exercise. Initial requirements can not be high, and should be more forced means to overcome the influence of external inhibition. With the improvement of the dog’s adaptability, then from the difficult training.

Problems to be noted in training

(a) After the dog lies down, if the hind limbs are crooked or fall on the ground and other incorrect postures, the trainer should immediately correct, but pay attention to the method so as not to destroy the whole action.

(b) If a dog is slow in lying down, it should be forced to move quickly.

(c) Before the delay in lying down is consolidated, do not rush to come to the training, so as not to destroy the delay.
