Characteristics of a healthy dog – growth and development

/

Pups begin to enter the growth period after birth, during this period, pups need a lot of energy, in addition to the mother dog feeding should be properly supplemented with food. The nutritional value of food should be comprehensive and balanced, and it is a hardness biscuit that is beneficial to the development of puppies.

As the pups grow and develop, their weight increases rapidly. By the time they reach 6 months of age, they are on average half the weight of an adult dog. Due to different breeds, the time and relative speed required to reach the adult dog weight are not the same, and the larger size of the dog, to reach the adult weight is relatively long.

Feeding patterns are particularly important for the growth rate of large and giant dogs. In order to prevent the phenomenon of skeletal dysplasia in the fastest growing period of large dogs, the correct feeding method should be taken to ensure the normal physiological needs of puppies, and do not overfeed.

The number of puppies fed after weaning is best 4 times a day, and when the weight reaches half of the dog, that is, it should be changed to twice a day during the age of 5 to 6 months, and once a day to adulthood.

In addition, it should also be noted that the protein and fat content of some dog food is too high, although such a diet is good in palatability, puppies love to eat, but due to the lack of exercise, especially puppies in the domestic restricted areas, the daily exercise is seriously insufficient, and the accumulation of fat will have a serious impact on the dog’s cardiovascular system. Therefore, proper feeding is beneficial to the health of dogs.

Large and giant dogs, such as Great Danes, St. Bernards, Newfoundlands, and Caucasians, mature at 22 to 24 months of age.

Medium sized dogs mature at 16 to 18 months of age, such as Collie, Boeing, Dubbin, Rottweiler, Labrador, Setter, etc.

The physical maturity of small dogs is 12 to 14 months after birth, such as Shih Tzu, Cairnkin, Japanese Zhong, etc.

Dogs gradually enter old age as they grow older. In general, the smaller the dog, the longer it takes to get into old age.
