It is important for the dog to learn to turn its eyes to you as soon as you call its name. When training, use things that are of more interest to the dog (toys, candy, etc.) to get the dog’s attention.
This is a very important training. It ensures that in future training, no matter how the situation is at any given time, when you call the dog’s name, you will be able to focus the dog’s attention on the owner.
Start by calling the dog’s name while holding a favorite object and slowly moving it back and forth between the dog’s eyes and the owner’s jaws.
Then, on one of several occasions, give the dog its favorite object. Make the dog feel very happy to be called by its name.
Note that when the dog’s name is called, even if once in a while the dog looks up at the owner’s face with the call, give him great encouragement, pet his head, sometimes give a prize, etc.
In order to make the time of looking gradually increase, the time of giving rewards should be gradually lengthened accordingly.
When calling the dog’s name, there is no need to bend down.
Just hold something that the dog likes and move it back and forth between the dog’s eyes and the owner’s chin to attract the dog’s attention and make it focus its eyes on the owner’s face.
