Sit training needs to be done in a special place with just the owner and the dog so that the dog’s attention is fully focused on the owner.
If something else is constantly distracting the dog, the training will be difficult to carry out.
The dog does not understand the command “sit” at all at first. Therefore, it is important for the owner to help the dog at the beginning.
Beforehand, the owner squats on the right side of the dog and presses his right hand against the dog’s chest, while his left hand gently presses down on the dog’s back, exerting pressure from the tail to make the dog sit. While the left hand carries out this series of movements, the right hand gently pushes the dog’s chest and gives the command “Sit”.
However, the movements of the owner’s hands are an aid to teaching the dog the sit position, and the “sit” command is to make the dog understand what “sit” is all about.
At this point, if the dog is able to perform the “sit” action himself, give him a compliment immediately.
The second time, when the dog’s butt is close to the ground, praise him.
Later on, you can gradually grasp the timing and praise the dog after it has completely finished the action.
After a few days, without this series of aids, the dog will sit down by simply making the command and at the same time extending the left hand to the dog’s back. Soon the dog will be able to accomplish this maneuver with the command alone.
However, there are some dogs that are overly active and the above methods are not effective. In this case, it is not necessary to repeat the command and do not reprimand the dog.
Place your right hand under the dog’s neck and push the dog’s neck back gently with your right hand while you force the dog to sit with your left hand. Alternatively, hold the collar in your right hand and pull back on the collar while giving the command. Hold the dog’s tail with your left hand so that it doesn’t wiggle from side to side, and then force it to sit.
In training “sit”, if the same action is repeated five times in a row, the dog may get bored.
Therefore, you should change to some other new methods. For example, let the dog do the sitting by itself.
Take an object that the dog likes and move it backward from the dog’s nose. As the owner’s hand moves, the dog’s head gradually lifts backward. When it can’t lift it anymore, it sits.
Also, if the dog stands up again when the owner is praising it, it should not be reprimanded or ordered to do so. Let the dog feel that training is a happy thing. Only in this way can training achieve better results.
Remember, it takes a long time just to memorize the command. Expectations of the owner are often too high and can confuse the dog.
