Level 1 Dog Training: Defecation Training

/

This training is to cultivate the good habit of regular defecation of the dog, not to destroy the family hygiene and outdoor public health. The command is “defecate” and the training method is as follows:

Outdoor Defecation Training

Initial training should be appropriate to control the amount of food, and immediately after feeding to the outdoor fixed place scattered, to be rewarded back to the house in time after the dog defecation. Dogs generally need to scatter 5 times a day, namely: after getting up in the morning, before lunch, after lunch break, after dinner, before going to bed, each time about 10 minutes. The number of times can be increased appropriately during the initial training.

Indoor Defecation Training

1. Make full use of the dog after eating food want to defecate opportunity to teach. That is, after the dog ate the food, the owner will immediately guide the dog to the box for its preparation for defecation, at the bottom of the box to lay some grass, preferably the lawn in the garden. If the box with the dog’s urine and feces smell is better, to induce the dog’s defecation behavior.

When the dog defecates, the owner should immediately reward the dog with a “good” command and a pat. With this training, the dog will develop the habit of defecating at regular intervals.

2. The use of dog defecation before the body language signals to teach. If the dog appears to be uneasy, turn around, sniffing, tail, squatting, lifting legs and other actions, immediately carry the dog to the box specially prepared for its defecation. Since the box has the smell of its feces attached to it, the dog can easily produce defecation behavior. When the dog defecates smoothly, the owner should reward the dog immediately with the command “good” and a pat, so that the dog is not only physically strengthened, but also rewarded by the owner.

After 3-4 days of training, the dog will usually develop the habit of defecating in the designated place automatically.

3. Use the method of laying newspaper to teach. This method applies to the conditions of the room where the dog lives alone, in the room of the whole floor, first with newspaper, so that the dog had to defecate in the place where the newspaper, the dog defecated after the re-exchange of clean newspaper. After a few days of this, you can gradually take away the newspaper around the dog’s bed, expose the floor and clean it. The floor will be free of the odor of the dog’s feces, while the newspaper will have the odor of the dog’s feces, making it easy for the dog to defecate on the newspaper. With this training, the range of newspapers with the odor of feces will be narrowed down and moved to a fixed place, so that the dog will develop the habit of defecating only in the place where the newspapers are spread.

Problems to be noted in training:

  • If the dog defecates at will, the command “no” should be given in time and combined with the stimulus of pulling and pulling the leash to stop bad defecation habits in time, and then take the dog to the designated place to defecate after stopping it, and give the dog a reward after defecating. In order to inhibit the bad defecation habits of the dog, the correct defecation habits produce excitement, so as to develop a good habit of automatically defecating in the correct place.
  • Correcting the dog’s bad defecation habits, we must seize the time when the dog shows that it is going to defecate but has not yet begun, combined with the “non-” command and the corresponding mechanical stimulation to correct it in time. Any additional stimulation afterward is ineffective.
  • During outdoor activities, since the dog has left the fixed place of defecation indoors or outdoors at home, if the dog needs to defecate at this time, the owner should bring the dog to a place where defecation does not affect the public hygiene and carry out the necessary treatment.
